Overview

The diffusion of TVs and VCRs has been remarkable, and we are moving from 1 unit per household

to 1 unit per person. This trend is supported by low prices enabled by the shift of fabrication overseas.

One unit per room is predicted. Under this circumstance, even lower prices and low power dissipation

are required for sets.

Sanyo has been developing mainly TV/VCR interface ICs, and has just developed the LA79100V,

which is ideally suited for the tuner IC field. Tuners are used to select the radio signals from the

desired broadcasting station. For this purpose, in the conventional method, oscillation required to

extract intermediate frequencies is generated by an oscillator, and mixed with the radio waves from

the broadcasting station to convert the radio waves of the desired station into intermediate frequencies.

The LA79100V is a 1-chip tuner IC that integrates a UHF band OSC and mixer, a VHF band OSC and

mixer, as well as an IF amplifier. The power supply voltage is 5V, contributing to lower power dissipa-

tion. The package is a 20-pin SSOP (pin pitch of 0.65 mm) that enables compact sets.
