SYNCHRONIZATION SIGNALS
BRC: The BRC out put c ontrols t he ri ng generat or’s out put pow er
bridge. The bridge converts the half s ine rec tified w ave t o a f ull s ine
wave at the output.
The BRC signal i s a l ogic l evel s quare wave at t he s ame f requency of
the output sine wave.
SYNC: The SYNC out put i s us ed t o s ynchronize out put ri nging rel ays
switching with the ri ng generat or’s out put vol tage zero c rossing. The
SYNC out put produc es a hi gh l ogic l evel pulse to indicate zero
crossing. The SYNC pulse rises a s hort time prior to the output signal’s
zero crossing in order to allow for the relay response time. Exact signal
timing are i ndicated i n t he E LECTRICAL CHA RACTERISTICS SYNC
OUTPUT parameters.

LOAD REGULATION
Load regulation refers t o t he degree of output voltage deviations as a
function of output rm s c urrent variations. The load regulation capability
of a ring generator built around t he P D5036 w ill be ef fected by a
number of design and component selection criteria:
The quality of the transformers’ primary to secondary coupling and
winding leakage. Good coupling and low leakage will im prove load
regulation.
Impedance of the transformer w inding and c ore l osses. Low
impedance and low core losses will improve load regulation.
Input capacitor ESR. Low E SR w ill reduc e input v oltage ripple,
which will im prove t he input v oltage A/D sampling accuracy. Since
the input voltage A/D s ensing di rectly ef fects t he devi ce’s out put
voltage, high sampling accuracy will improve load regulation.
FET dropout vol tage. Low m ain s witching and s ynchronous
switching FETs dropout voltage will improve load regulation.
Output bridge transistor’s dropout voltage. Low dropout voltage will
improve load regulation.
In proper des ign, l oad regulation of 6% f or l oads varyi ng f rom 10% t o
100%, and 10% regulation f or l oads varyi ng f rom no l oad t o 100% of
the circuit’s rated load, can be achieved. Rat ed l oad is def ined as t he
equivalent loading that does not cause the PD5036 to decrease the ring
generator’s output voltage, or t rigger t he overl oad/short c ircuit
protection.
